- Location: Redwood Regional Park
- Route: Start at the Big Bear Staging Area. Cross the road, and the bridge and hike the short access trail to Golden Spike Trail, and take a Right on to Golden Spike Trail. Follow Golden Spike to West Ridge Trail, and turn Left on to West Ridge. Follow West Ridge past Tate, and take a Left on to Baccharis Trail. At 2.6 miles Baccharis Trail goes to the left at the unmarked split. Keep to the left. Follow Baccharis to Montiero Trail, and turn Left on to Montiero. Look for Golden Spike Trail, and take that Left. Follow Golden Spike, past the stables, and continue on to the start of the hike. Look for the access trail.
- Mileage: 4.67 miles, 591 feet elevation gain
- Difficulty Level: Moderate, some climbs up to and on West Ridge Trail
- Description: This is a pleasant family loop hike, with some climbs that may be slick when wet. This part of the park has more oaks than redwoods, and there are some encroaching eucalyptus as well. The Golden Spike Trail was built by kids from a boys camp run by the Alameda County Probation Department, and there is a plaque honoring them along the trail.
