- Location: Round Valley Regional Preserve
- Route: From the staging area, cross the bridge and take a Left on to the Hardy Canyon Trail. Follow Hardy Canyon Trail all the way around the mountain to connect with the Miwok Trail. Turn Right on to the Miwok Trail, and follow that back to the staging area.
- Mileage: 5 miles, 942 feet elevation gain.
- Difficulty Level: Moderate
- Description: This hike is one of my favorites, for many reasons. It's a nice balance between climbing and distance, offers great views, oaks, and even multiple creeks. What I find most compelling is that this might have easily turned out to be a landfill. The beautiful valley on the other side of the mountain had been under consideration as a landfill, and it nearly happened. Locals and activists challenged the proposal, and it was eventually turned in to park. When you get to a good view spot, take a moment and appreciate those who fought to keep this natural beauty. Think about how you might be able to contribute to protecting our open spaces.
